hi reddit!
hatlesswonder says:You are a fanboy. I don’t know how you missed the obvious parallels between this and a game like Portal or C&C Red Alert, probably because you are a fanboy
playstationgameruk Says:
Ever thought that Scruffy hasn’t played Portal & Red Alert so unable to state the parallels?

orbilator Says:
hatlesswonder Portal and C&C,? what the hell you on? Your a 360 owning fanboy knob jockey whos never even played this game. Go get a F$%king life and troll somewhere else you tw@t

hatlesswonder Says:
@playstationgameruk
Exactly! They are both fabulous games and the parallels are CLEARLY there in game play, style and story. Because of his fanboyism he is unable to recognise this as RA2 is PC exclusive and Portal sucks on the PS3. If he looked beyond just PS3 games he could make some really interesting comparisons and be a better reviewer for it.

@orbilator
Did you just call me a “Knob Jockey”? Also, I do not own a 360, where do you get this information?

Scruffy Says: Alright, now you’ve pissed me off, I haven’t played Red Alert because I don’t like Command & Conquer. However, I have played portal and I see NO parallels between it and inFamous. The stories are different, the gameplay is a completely different genre and the style is no where near the same. I only write about PS3 games here but you think I’ve never played any others? You’re a moron. Go put your hat back on and stop trolling. Also, I said the missions are original, not the story or gameplay so I fail to see how any possible parallels between Portal, C&C and inFamous would do anything to alter my review of the game.

hatlesswonder Says:
@scruffy Have you played a non-ps3 version of portal? The game sucked for PS3 because valve sucks at developing for it, play the PC version and get the TRUE experience, then get back to me. Also, I think that recognising parallels between games can GREATLY increase your reviewing ability. When reviewing literature, for example, its good to recognise when one piece pays homage to another (or blatantly rips it off in the case of inFamous and Portal).

Scruffy Says:
Yes, actually I’ve played all three versions of Portal. And I think that none of them have any parallels to inFamous. So come on smart ass. Show me how inFamous rips off Portal.

mr rtd Says:
gunned

mr rtd Says:
for the most part i agree with the review expet in my opinion i thout it was good having to discover and unlock powers… also i do agree with the issue you mentioned about it being hard to get around erly on,but once u unlok the power that makes u gring on rails it gets easy

hatlesswonder Says:
Why would you play the exact same game 3 times? The only discrepancy is the crap in the PS3 version. I already said why inFamous rips off portal in a previous comment so I will not repeat myself, but rest assured, you just lost yourself a reader.

Scruffy Says:
You have not said how it rips it off, you said that it rips it off. Listen you damn troll. You probably heard that on some message board and decided to come and throw it around. And I don’t think I did lose a reader, that assumes that you’re smart enough to read. And judging from some of the incoherent dumbassery that’s come out of your keyboard I’m starting to doubt that.

It rips off inFamous because it has the SAME game play, graphics and story. I don’t know how to be more specific, the parallels are obvious. I’m not sure how I stole this idea from a message board seeing as I cant read.

Scruffy Says: Gameplay: they’re two different genres of games. inFamous has third person open world platforming and portal is first person shooting without anything to shoot at. The graphics are no where near the same no matter what system you play on. And yes, the story of a female test subject with a portal generating gun strapped to her arm being led through what ultimately amounts to a maze is definitely the same as inFamous, the game about a courier who gets powers when his package blows up. I don’t know how I didn’t see it. You sir are a moron and a troll, go back to Neogaf

------------There was a deleted comment correcting the grammar in the previous post, it was deleted before I could save it, rest assured that it was hilarious----------

hatlesswonder2 Says:
Why did you purge my hat-wearing-brothers comment? I guess my inability to read is hilarious, while your inability to write gets deleted. You don’t get it, the similarities transcend the shallow ideas you bring up in your comparison. If you put an over-the-shoulder camera on halo, it is still halo, right? They basically put a new skin on portal and PS3 fanboys don’t even notice. I think that PS3 fanboys really want some things (like a unique game that’s not on other consoles) SO much that they are willing to believe that they already have it.

Scruffy Says: You see that’s the thing, when it’s your blog you’re allowed to delete whatever you see fit. And I could take the time to systematically pick apart your argument but I’m guessing you’re just going to continue the whole “it’s the same because I say it is” thing that you’ve been saying so far so I don’t see the point. Also whether or not inFamous is exclusive has nothing to do with my review score. Oh, and isn’t the point of your username that you’re not wearing a hat?

Me Says:
Hatty, have you even played inFAMOUS?

hatlesswonder2 Says:
Where do you see me saying “its the same thing because it is”? You said that a few times, not me. I am giving up on this argument, I’m trying to throw out some logical points and you are just consistently misquoting me and trying to suspend belief that the PS3 FINALLY has a decent exclusive game, when it is just a re-branding of an existing cross-platform title. When you are ready to put your fanboyism aside and have a logical back-and-fourth about this game I’m more then happy to oblige.

Scruffy Says:
Are you kidding me? You’re the one saying that the PS3 has no decent exclusive games and I’m the fanboy? You’re insane. You’re not throwing out any logical points, you’re just saying that they’re the same. You’re like a two year old. You are comparing a first person puzzle game to an open world third person plat former and saying they’re the same. You say they look the same despite using different engines and having different art styles. There is nothing logical about your argument. You are quite possibly one of the dumbest commenters I’ve ever had, and the sad thing is that you’re convinced that what you’re saying is right. You’re the type of reader I would prefer to lose. So leave, please, do the internet a favor and crawl back into your mother’s basement. And “Me” brings up a good point, have you even played the damn game? Apparently not since it’s obviously not what you think it is.

hatlesswonder3 Says:
lol. Halflife, Portal and Left 4 Dead all use the same engine, so does that mean they look/play the same? no. As a ps3 owner I dont like being called an xbox fanboy, but they have more exclusive games. It’s true. The user base is larger so it is simply more cost effective to make 360 exclusives instead of ps3 exclusives, its simple dollars and cents. I chose a PS3 because I wanted a stable console that wont Red Ring, worthy sacrifice for fewer exclusives. You don’t even seem to get my point, the similarities transcend genre. You know you are losing an argument when, instead of attacking my points, you are attacking myself as a person.

Scruffy Says:
And Gears of War and Unreal Tournament look the exact same, I can pull out examples to prove my point too. I’m attacking you because your argument doesn’t exist. You’re just saying that my points don’t count and saying yours over again. Also, I wasn’t comparing the PS3 to the Xbox, you continually say that it has no exclusives, no where did you say it has fewer than the 360. If you bought a PS3 even though you think it has no good exclusive games then you’re even stupider than your argument seems to suggest. The similarities don’t transcend genre, the similarities don’t exist. And Half Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead do all look very similar.

hatlesswonder4 Says:
You are backwards, if you bought a PS3 FOR the exclusives, you are dumber then YOUR terrible grammar suggests. I said in my last comment, and ill say it again, I chose PS3 for reliability, not exclusives. I only play games a few hours a week so the added reliability of the PS3 is worth the sacrifice of fewer exclusive games.
You claim to be attacking me because my argument doesn’t exist. WTF, then why are you attacking me? Two posts ago you said the following: “You are comparing a first person puzzle game to an open world third person plat former”. Well in your last post you compared Portal (a puzzle shooter game) to Left 4 Dead (a zombie game with no puzzle elements). Why not say TF2 looks exactly like HL2? They are also the same engine. If you are allowed to compare puzzle games and zombie games (Portal and L4D) then why am I not allowed to compare two identical games (portal and inFamous) simply because labeled with different genres? I suggest you start following your own rules. As a service to both of us could you please read over your comments before posting, they seem very stream-of-consciousness and they are almost impossible to follow.

Scruffy Says:
I’m comparing them in looks, you’re comparing them in gameplay. That’s why, I’m not making rules. I’m not saying that Portal and Left 4 Dead play the same, I’m saying that they look the same. They have the same graphical style. No where did I say they played the same.

Scruffy Says: And you still haven’t answered the question, have you played the game? Because if you haven’t then I don’t care what system you own, you’re nothing better than a fanboy on neogaf saying “PS3 fails ROFL ROFL ROFL”

hatlesswonder4 Says: Yes, I have played inFamous on my Playstation 3. I don’t know where these assumptions about me are coming from. WTF. I’ve never visited NeoGaf in my life. What kind of fanboy am I?

Scruffy Says:
This is over, I’ve spent enough of my time arguing with some moron over my review. If you don’t want to read the site anymore then don’t.

hatlesswonder6 Says:
You can delete my comments if you want, but why did you delete that one? You didn’t have to respond, was there something you didn’t want others to see? I don’t get it. I realise that it is your site and you can delete if you want to, some justification would just be nice.

That’s the thing, I still want to read the site, but the rambling writing-style and complete disregard for grammar makes it difficult. I also think there might be a journalistic integrity question, is scruffy paid off by sony? Any critic worth his salt would have brought up the similarity between inFamous and Portal. I am not a 360 fanboy (considering I am a PS3 owner, and have no plans to switch), but it just feels like this reviewer goes out of his way to berate microsoft and put sony on a pedestal, and that is fine, I can respect someone with pride of ownership. If you spend $400-$500 on a console you want to be confident you made the right decision, but making a gaming blog dedicated to patting yourself on the back for your great purchasing decision is taking it a little far; that said allow me to reiterate that I am a happy PS3 owner, but I’ll admit when Microsoft does something right, and when sony does something wrong (and vice-versa). One of the things that leads me to believe that Scruffy is paid off by sony (or REALLY wants to justify his $400 purchase) is the Natal post; he tore it to shreds, while sony’s pitiful (by all accounts) motion control only had a brief blurb in an E3 wrap-up post, he even goes as far as projecting (with no citation) a $400 price tag for natal, even after all M$ execs say it will be an affordable accessory. If Scruffy went through all of the effort to completely tear the natal to shreds (or at least try) then why was there no dedicated post about sony’s failures (*Cough* EyeToy *Cough*)?

Scruffy Says:
Listen, I don’t have time to write about everything. Yes, I wrote an article about why I don’t like Project Natal, no where did I say that you couldn’t like it. I didn’t talk about the EyeToy because I don’t see the point in talking about something from last generation. I don’t care if you think I’m fair or biased, I write about what I want to write about. I’m not going to write a second article blasting Sony because I wrote one about why I don’t like Natal. And for the record, I think all motion controllers are stupid (Sony’s included). Also, I wish Sony was paying me off, I’d like the extra income.

hatlesswonder6 Says:
If there is eyetoy is last generation then wtf is this? http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/26/sony-announces-playstation-eye-webcam-for-ps3

Also, I suggest you read my last post again because you seem to have missed the point.

Scruffy Says:
I believe that’s called the PlayStation Eye isn’t it? The EyeToy was last generation. The PSEye is actually a lot better than the EyeToy, it’s really one of the best and cheapest webcams you can buy, I love mine and use it a lot. That said I do admit that Sony hasn’t managed to get people to use it in games.
And I know what the point of the comment is, that I’m a fanboy who only writes here to comfort myself because I’m apparently unhappy with my purchase of a PS3. I didn’t talk about it because I’m fairly certain that it doesn’t matter what I say, it’s not going to change your mind.
Although, I can assure you, I’m quite happy with my PS3. And I do not have any sort of buyers pride (I sold my Wii after all) and have nothing against the Xbox 360 (as I’m looking into buying one now). I just prefer my PS3.

hatlesswonder7 Says:
Scruffy, I can tell by the way you write that you do not proofread before pressing the “submit comment” button. If you make a comment at the end of a post referring to the beginning of the post, I suggest you move said comment there, it makes your arguments hard to follow, and your points seem like they are written by a child. I find it very hard to take your counter-arguments seriously if they are so poorly written. Is English your first language? You mentioned in a previous comment that you are from Canada, are you French? Before your next comment I highly suggest you refer to "http://www.eslgo.com/. It will aid you, as a commenter/poster and me as a reader.

The reason I bring all this grammar stuff up is because I think that my points about inFamous being identical to portal can be taken WAY more seriously then yours about it not, seeing as they are just THAT poorly written! For example, a previous commenter saw it fit to call me a “Knob Jockey”. If you were in a university course and got a question wrong with the comment “Wrong, You are a knob jockey” you would probably think that you have a pretty stupid professor. No offense, but the way you carry yourself on the internet is sub-par at best.
I hope you appreciate me taking time out of my busy work-day to make this comment, I think if you hired a professional to critique your work it would cost upwards of $500.

Hatlessfag did u actually evr play inFamous?!@?

Please only leave comments that are relevant to the review of the game that is in no way similar to Portal. If you don’t like my writing no one is forcing you to read it.

I took the liberty of hosting the discussion on another website for those interested in reading it. I think we should continue this discussion, but you clearly think this comment thread is a good place. Where do you suggest we go to continue this discussion? I vote for anywhere with spelling and grammar check options.
