hi reddit!
There’s a thin line between dreams and reality. Unless you’re one of the ones that create reality, in which case you could make it so there is no line – Thin or otherwise. But even those dreams must follow certain rules, and much like the rules in reality – Our reality – Those rules are there for reasons which nobody will ever truly understand. Gravity for instance; why must we follow a rule that sets us back? Life would be so much easier if we could fly.

It was their first meeting in their existence. Well, it was their first anything of their existence, since they had only just been born; if you can even consider them being ‘born’. They just come into being, and always in a similar way; in pairs, in batches. In this particular case, there was a batch of 9 pairs. 18 new governing bodies of time and space. Why would anyone need 18 beings that rule everything? They don’t. We don’t. Each pair controls whatever they’re given for however long they’re given it, which is usually forever. That is, if they don’t make any mistakes.

The meeting took place in nowhere in particular, or particularly nowhere. As is everything regarding time-space, it was confusing, or is confusing, or will be confusing. In any case, it took place and that was the important thing, or is the important thing, or will be the important thing – Actually, all of them, really. If this meeting didn’t happen, this story wouldn’t have been written, or will not be written; unless a completely different set of events happened that led to this exact same situation, which isn’t as unlikely as it seems, considering the same events may be happening in billions of other galaxies or dimensions.

So, anyway, the meeting that took place. The meeting where Jupiter – who may have been the king of all of the Creators, as he says he was, or could have been just another Creator like the new 18, but he had said he was, and that was all they had needed – told them what they were given and what they were to do once they had taken it. He also covered the laws they had to follow. Laws such as not being able to destroy something another Creator has made, without their consent, and not giving any species enough thought to even consider a Creators existence.

No time had passed since the start of the meeting, and it seemed as such too. No sooner had they gathered their thoughts – Or in some cases, gathered a single thought – did they find themselves (Or lose themselves, as it seemed) in a room without walls, a floor or a ceiling. The space seemed almost limitless, but even the most spatially unaware of beings could feel that they were in a room; it was that ‘closed-off’ feeling that claustrophobics feel, but in this situation, it would be more frightening to an agoraphobic. Trapped in endless space.

Endless space. If only that separated each of the pairs, then maybe everything would have worked out...

Each pair could see their given planets, which they had to remodel, without changing the shape, or the atmospheric make-up of the planet - another one of the laws Jupiter had mentioned previously. They had 9 planets between them, orbiting a star – Jupiter’s eye (No, that’s not just a name for it, it was his eye. Literally. Possibly one of many eyes) – which monitored the planets; to see if any of them did break the rule. He would then go on to punish the pair accordingly. Rumour has it that he once destroyed an entire solar system just by blinking. Then again, it was probably him that started the rumour.

Regardless of whether it was the truth or not, none of the newcomers had any idea of what was happening, and so they didn’t second-guess him, and, at that point, it was questionable whether they had the necessary intelligence to even feel suspicious. And then Jupiter blinked. If any of them had previously thought the rumours were false; they didn’t now.

They gained knowledge, vast, timeless knowledge; that, and fear, vast, timeless fear. This blink and the sudden spark of knowledge was the true nature of the ‘Big bang theory’ but contrary to what some may say, there was no explosion, although the blink made it seem as though everything had suddenly come into existence all at once. I guess, in a way, it was true; When Jupiter blinked, any life in the solar system had died and so, anything created later would believe it to be the start of life. And to think, all this mayhem was created because there was dust in Jupiter’s eye.

It actually wasn’t mayhem, barely anything had happened. There was no life on the planets in that particular solar system, so nothing had died The only actual effect it had was that the flash had shocked the Creators and unlocked some hidden potential (Although none of them were actually looking for it, nor could any of them comprehend the meaning of the word, ‘potential’ before the shock)

At that moment, everything seemed to make sense; all they had to do was create life, simple; relatively speaking, of course. Creators were made for this; quite literally in fact. No confusing time paradoxes, no tears in the fabric of space, just make a few species that can survive in the planet and then you can just relax and let the creatures do whatever they want to do. Provided reality allows them to do it.

This would have been simple if not for two things. One, they had just come into existence, they knew nothing about life or how anything should work. This was easy to get around, since they could change reality to make it easier for them, but their abilities had their ways of working. The temporal one of the pair could change the rules of time on specific things, whereas, if the spatial half decided to change the rules of space, he would change it for every other planet too. And that was forbidden.

The second complication was that there were conditions set on each planet to test them. The best Creator’s could use even the worst conditions and turn them around to benefit them. Jupiter should know, since he was one of them – Or so he had said.

By the time they had gotten their heads around everything, another second had passed; These Creators were slow; very slow; relatively speaking, of course. It has taken me much longer than a second to explain even the most basic of the events that had happened, so I can only assume that the Creators were on a level of knowledge on par with – Well, themselves. It would be an insult to them to say their intelligence was even remotely close to one of their creations, and nobody would want to insult a Creator.

Up until that point, they had not even considered others to be in the space with them, their thoughts had only concerned themselves. But now, they had gained knowledge, they could think of everything, all at once. If they could have, they would have looked up at each other, but they couldn’t, for three reasons: One, they had no body, which means no head, so they couldn’t physically look up; two, they were all-seeing, all the time, so whatever they wanted to look at, they could look at without having to move; and three, they had nothing to look at, since they had no bodies Yes, number three is the same as number one, but they’re from different perspectives.

They were connected through thought, they simply had to broadcast a thought to speak, but everybody was silent. They were all afraid that another Creator would hear any roaming thoughts one might have, and so they stopped thinking. For people, this would be fatal, we need to think, even subconsciously, to keep the bodily functions working; but these beings had no bodily functions, they were safe. The only thought they kept going, was one at the back of the mind, which would remind them to start thinking again at a later point. Forward planning - a very useful skill to have, whether you’re creating life, or simply writing a story.
