  • Includes Universal 1 & 2 (U1 & U2), mHD v4, Very Fast+ (VF+) and Experimental (E1 and E2) plus four new profiles mHD v5 and Level 1, 2 & 3. These profiles are adaptions of the default presets (--preset) and the film or grain tune (--tune) using information found on the doom9(10) forum, plus a few other sites (most are listed bellow) and/or extensive visual tests. Also added DEMAND (HD), LOL (SD) and mSD's old profiles
    • MeGUI: Extract the profiles to ... MeGUI / allprofiles / x264
    • Tx264: Extract the PreDefs folder into the folder containing Tx264 (if you want to update x264 download the latest 8bit/10bit version from here and unzip x264.exe into tx264 / tools / x264. If you want to update FFMPEG download the latest version from here and unzip ffmpeg.exe into tx264 / tools / ffmpeg)
    • MeGUI & Tx264: Older profiles have been put into separated folders (E1/2, P2P/Scene & U1/2), If you want to use these profiles move them from the subfolder into the folder containing the profiles, i.e. x264 & PreDefs
    • Handbrake: Click here (Alt.)
    • StaxRip/x264vfw/etc: Select a profile (listed bellow), then copy and paste it into the 'command line'

Profile Notes

  • Anime and cartoons try E1 or E1+ (bottom of this page), generally for optimal quality 10-bit x264 should be also used. Alternatively use mHD v4 or U2+ (deblocking (--deblock) should be changed to 0:0 (or upto 2:1 if you prefer a smoother, cleaner image)*)
  • Generally the consistant rate factor* (--crf) should only be increased by a maximum of 3 (1﹘2 if the resolution is less than 480p*). VF+ and mHD v5 are the exceptions and shouldn't be increased, instead L1 and mHD v4 should be used
  • U1 v3 & U2: Adaptive Quantization Mode (--aq-mode 2): '"Auto-variance" uses var^0.25 instead of log(var) and attempts to adapt strength per-frame. Generates significantly better SSIM; on by default with --tune ssim. Whether it generates visually better quality is still up for debate.' - BugMaster*
  • E1/2, L1/2/3, mHD v5 & U1: Psychovisual Trellis (--psy-rd 1.00:1.00) tries to retain more sharpness and detail, but can cause artifacting. It is considered experimental, which is why it's off by default
  • U1: Ideally U1+ should be used if possible, if not use v3. The mb-tree (--rc-lookahead) is disabled (--no-mbtree) in v4, generally this is not recommended or required
  • Anyone not using a desktop PC or laptops; these profiles have not been tested on any portable devices, consoles, set-top boxes (media player), etc. Alterations to the settings may need to be made for these profiles to work on those devices
